91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ mourns the life and legacy of Ralph Jones, a previous devoted member of our Board of Trustees, whose service spanned nearly 50 years. His devotion and accomplishments will continue to inspire generations to come.

A resident of Denison since 1961, Jones’s journey was marked by a commitment to education, community service and leadership. He attended Texas Tech University and Hardin-Simmons University before graduating from Southern Methodist University’s Graduate School of Banking. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in the armored field artillery during the Korean War.

Jones joined the 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Board of Trustees in 1969, having played a pivotal role in the establishment of 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, serving on committees that evaluated the need for a community college in the area. In his years of service on the Board, Jones’s leadership was instrumental in many areas, including the initial launch of 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Baseball and its return in the early 1990s where the program saw significant success. Additionally, during Jones’s service as a Trustee, 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ worked to change state law to allow community colleges to offer bachelor's degrees, allowing GC to begin the RN to BSN program. His thoughtful contributions and endless support has placed 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ as a premier community college not only in Texas, but the nation.

Beyond his service to 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, Jones enjoyed a distinguished career in banking and continued to contribute to numerous businesses and community boards after his retirement. In recognition of his exceptional impact, he was honored with the inaugural Moving Forward Award by the City of Denison in May 2018.

To commemorate his unwavering service, a residence hall on campus opened in 2018 proudly bears his name—a testament to the mark he left on 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and the countless lives he impacted.

“The success of 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ today is a reflection of his hard work and commitment,” said 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ President Dr. Jeremy McMillen. “The foundation and growth of this institution is a reflection of his commitment and passion for student success.”

A Celebration of Life is planned for February 1, 2025 at Waples Methodist Church in Denison. The service will be held at 10am, with a reception to follow at 11am. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all who were fortunate to know him.

Ralph Jones’s vision, service and kindness will forever remain a guiding light for our community. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
