Beat the Heat 5K to benefit scholarships
Beat the Heat 5k Run/Walk benefitting local first responders will be held on Apr. 29 with a start time of 8:30 a.m. at behind Piner Middle School (402 W. Pecan Street) in Sherman.
The fourth annual event is co-sponsored by the 91Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ Honors College and the 91Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ County Law Enforcement Association (GCLEA). Proceeds will benefit the GCLEA bereavement fund, the GCLEA scholarship fund, and the 91Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ Deputy Chad Key Memorial Scholarship.
Register for the run at or go to and search for Beat the Heat. Registration is $25 through Apr. 10 and late registration is $30. Packet pickup will be at Academy Sports & Outdoors,Town Center, 3939 US Hwy 75 North, Sherman, TX 75090 on Friday Apr. 28 from noon until 6 p.m.
Donations will also be accepted through the getmeregistered.com site for people who can not participate but would like to contribute to the cause.
